How to draw sadness?
I want to show the stages of coloring the face, mostly I start with this.
The starting point is an accurate sketch, but within the face I rather paint it in the process.
First I fill the face with flat color on one layer, make a clipping mask on it and start applying shadows and lights so I know which part of the face to bring out.

To get the outline, I give a pad on an earlier layer from the part of the background under the face, select the hair with the lasso tool, fill it with the base color and make a mask and color on it too.
When I have the whole head, I make a layer over all of them and on it I finish the details of facial expressions or hair highlights.
